Parole Request of Behnam Irani Was Rejected

HRANA News Agency – The public court of Karaj rejected the request of parole by Behnam Irani, Iranian priest.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), branch number 7 of the public court of Karaj, has rejected the request of this newly converted to Christianity, in a letter that was written to prison authorities in March.

The public court of Karaj has described the reasons of this rejection as lack of remorse and illegal acts in prison, and said:

“Because there is no sign of remorse in the prisoner, but he is continuing his illegal actions, so the court is rejecting this request and till the time that he officially and clearly states his remorse, it will be rejected”.

According to a legal expert of HRANA, according to the Iranian law, parole does not have anything to do with stating the remorse and in addition to good manner, another needed condition is that it would be foreseen that after being release, there would be no committing crimes. So, prediction is contingent to future and there is no need for statement of remorse or repentance.

Behnam Irani was arrested in 2006, on charge of Christianity missionary activities and released on the bail on February 23, 2008. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison with a conditional sentence. Then in April 14, 2010 he was arrested and charged with propaganda against the regime and sentenced to one year in prison, which included his conditional sentence as well.
