Majid Tavakoli Released from Rajai Shahr Prison

HRANA News Agency – Majid Tavakoli, well-known student activist, was released from prison.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Majid Tavakoli was released with a 3 days leave, on 20th April, from Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.

Although, 10th May has been announced as his official date of freedom but it has been said that he will be on leave until then.

Majid Tavakoli, former member of Central Council of the Islamic Association of Amirkabir University of Technology, last time was arrested on 7th December 2009, after giving a speech in this University’s students’ gathering and was severely beaten.

He was charged with acting against national security by gathering and collusion, propaganda against the regime, defamation and insulting the leadership and President of Iran, by the Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court and was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment, 5 years deprivation of political activity and 5 years ban from leaving the country.

Majid Tavakoli, also was tried in a court, presided by Judge Moghiseh, during his imprisonment due to releasing a letter from prison in occasion of “Student Day”, on charge of propagating against the regime, and was sentenced to another six months imprisonment.
