Javid Houtan Kian Still Suffering From The Consequences Of Being Tortured Under Detention

HRANA News Agency – Two years after being released from the prison, Javid Houtan Kian, senior lawyer, is still denied of attorney jobs and is under medical treatment for diseases that according to informed sources he has been incurred since the time of arrest, imprisonment and because of ill-treatment and beatings.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Javid Houtan Kian, one of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s lawyers, is spending the second year after being released while facing exclusion of attorney jobs.

Javid Houtan Kian was arrested by the intelligence agents on 10th October 2010, in his law office in Tabriz, while he had an interview with the German journalist from a weekly magazine “Bild am Sonntag” regarding the latest circumstances of Mrs. Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s case.

The lawyer from the moment of detention has been beaten and mistreated by the officers. The German journalists, a year after the arrest, were released because of the efforts of the German government, but Javid Houtan Kian, at first was convicted to eleven years of imprisonment, revocation of attorney license to practice law and ten years being banned of leaving the country, and on the appeal court, only his imprisonment sentence was reduced to six years and the rest of the punishments were precisely upheld.

Javid Houtan Kiyan was released on 19th August 2013, due to a medical condition and lack of power to tolerate the punishment, but it is said that he has another open case and because of that he has been released on a bail of three hundred million Tomans and is waiting for the trial.

Houtan Kiyan has had several operations in the recent years because of the harassment and pressures in the prison that could be considered as torture.

Javid Houtan Kiyan was accused of propaganda against the regime, acting against national security, apostasy and insulting the Prophet (because of material published on his website and Facebook) and was transferred to Evin prison.
