A Civilian in Coma after Being Beaten by the Police

HRANA News Agency – Sajjad Tofighian was admitted at Yasoj “Imam Sajjad” hospital on Tuesday July 5, after being beaten with “electric batons” by 2 police officers in Dehdasht, of Yasouj. Later he has gone into coma. According to his family, his doctors have given up hope.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Sajjad Tofighian, a young man from Dehdasht who was beaten by the security forces in Imam Sajjad Hospital of Yasuj went into coma and the doctors have given up hope on him.
A close source to the Tofighian family announced the news in an interview with HRANA’s reporter and said: “One night before Eid al-Fitr, Sajjad Tofighian with two of his nephews went to visit the shrine of Hamza in the touristic district of Faryab by motorbike. On their way two security forces, Mr. Meskini and Mr. Jafarian, stopped them and beat them and used electric batons on their head and body and severely beat them and then confiscated their motorbike and all personal belongings and went away.”
The source further pointed out: “Immediately, his nephews transferred him to a medical center and contacted police station in Cheram and made a complaint, which was postponed to Saturday, as Friday is the weekend in Iran.”
The source continued: “Security forces’ merciless blows were so much that unfortunately he went into coma in Yasouj Emam Sajjad hospital. The doctors have given up hope so far.”
At the end he said: “Tofighian family is already under pressure not to speak with the media and got to an agreement for the issue in the police station. Today also, the local and provincial officials, including Mr. Adl Hashemi, Kohgiluyeh’s representative in the parliament and President of the Medical University have gone to visit him and have promised to follow the issue.”
