A Blogger Sentenced to 3 Years of Imprisonment

HRANA News Agency – Zine El Abidine Ghaemi, Khorasani blogger, has been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment by a preliminary court.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Mr. Ghaemi was tried on 20th May, on charges of propaganda against the regime, insulting the leadership and disturbing public opinion, by the Revolutionary Court in Ghaen, presided by judge Milanloei and was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment. He was notified of this sentence on 27th May, and he has made an appeal against the verdict.

Mr. Ghaemi, in an interview, told HRANA’s reporter: “I have been charged just because of my critical letters that I have written to the leader and the head of the Iran “Assembly of Experts” and officials in my blog or site Club, although, many of these letters have been removed after a period of time of the site and my blog was blocked and filtered, and I have objected and I hope that this sentence will be reduced.”

The middle-aged blogger, already in 2008, on similar charges was tried and after serving 22 months in prison, he was released. According to what he says; there is six months imprisonment suspended from his previous sentence that will be enforced when this new sentence is finalized.

Zine El Abidine Ghaemi in his defense for the Court of Appeal, has written that, his letters and literatures were his obligation and “Orders enjoining the good and forbidding the evil” and if someone who makes a mistake while he is doing his obligation, should be tried, then many civil and military leaders of the Islamic Republic should be tried because of their mistakes during their service.
