A Baha’i Citizen Sentenced to Prison Addresses His Judge

HRANA News Agency – Alireza Haghighi, a Baha’i citizen of Arak who has been recently sentenced to 3 years in prison and one year suspended prison by the Islamic Revolutionary Court of the city of Yazd on charges of propaganda against the system and acting against national security, wrote a letter to his judge. The following is the full text of the letter, a copy of which has been submitted to the HRANA:

“The Honorable Judge of the Revolutionary Court of Yazd, Branch #1, Mr. Arshian,

Hello,

My name is Navid Haghighi Najafabadi, the son of Anayatollah and a resident of Arak city. I am a defendant with file no. 910998030460023 who has been sentenced to 4 years in prison, one year of which was later converted to suspended imprisonment, with the charges of propaganda against the regime.

Since my childhood, I have learned from my deceased father to respect the law and therefore I am ready to travel to the city of Yazd to turn myself into the judiciary system to start my prison term. If you recall my sentence has been issued by you as the honorable judge who is holding a position equivalent of our leader Imam Ali. Considering that a fair judge like yourself should be believing in the life after death and that our current life is short and we shall soon be present before the Great God, I am confident that you are well aware of your great responsibility and that the God is witnessing your acts. Now, if you believe that your verdict against me has been fair and based on a fair trial, God will reward you and your family a stunning recompense.

However, I honestly believe that the only reason for my imprisonment is my faith as a Baha’i, which is actually not a crime before God. Now, I leave my family including my mother, wife, and children behind to spend my term in prison per your decree. But, I pray God and wish to visit you before God and in his court of justice to ask for his justice regarding what you have done to me, my tearful mother, my troubled wife, and my deprived children.

I am writing you this letter because I know you have a family and kids and have been beneficiary of basic social rights. At last, I wish you good luck in implementing fair execution of civil law and wish that all honorable judges of this country issue fair and just verdicts. I appreciate your time and considerations for reading this note.

Warm regards,

Navid Haghighi

CC- all authorities and fair people of my beloved country, Iran, to support justice”
