Amir Amirgholi’s Father: My Son is in a Critical Condition in Prison

HRANA News Agency – Amir Amirgholi, student activist and political prisoner in Evin prison, who is on the 14th day of his hunger strike to protest at his conditions in the prison, is suffering from low blood pressure and weight loss and is in critical physical condition. Abbas Amirgholi, his father, announced that his son’s demand was legitimate and called on officials to address his case.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Amir Amirgholi, leftist activist and political prisoner in ward eight of Evin prison, has gone on hunger strike to protest at his condition in the prison since Saturday April 9th.

Regarding his condition, his father told HRANA’s reporter: “I went to visit him on Wednesday. His physical condition has deteriorated and he has lost about 10 kilograms. His blood pressure is 9 on 6 and he is in critical condition. Two days later when he called us we realized from his voice that his condition had got even worse. Amir also that said if they would not care I would start wet hunger strike.”

Mr. Amirgoli also pointed out in response to the question whether the authorities have acted in this regard or not: “None of the authorities has reviewed his demands so far. We hope that the officials will look at the issues in a humanitarian way and go over and see what he wants are legitimate demands of a defendant. Amir did not request anything against the law. If there is law, it must be addressed. And the authorities who do not respect the law should be jailed for failing to comply with the law. If someone must go to the jail for failing to comply with the law, authorities must go to jail, too.”

Amir Amirgholi, former student activist and political prisoner in ward eight of Evin prison, was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment by branch 15 of the revolutionary court presided over by judge Salvati on charges of “blasphemy”, “insulting the Supreme Leader”, “gathering and colluding to act against national security”, “disturbing public order by participating in gatherings” and “propaganda against the regime”. In accordance with the Article 134 of the Penal Code and the aggregation of crime, the maximum sentence can be up to seven years and a half. His Appeal Court Branch has not be determined yet.

Mr. Amirgholi, this political prisoner’s father, in a conversation with HRANA reporter had said: “Amir is held in ward eight of Evin prison where most prisoners are foreigners. He has requested to be transferred from this ward based on the principle of separation of offenses, due to inappropriate health and hygiene condition and be in danger by living in the ward with prisoners who suffer from infection diseases such HIV and Hepatitis, but despite repeated requests and hunger strike, no action has been taken.”
