11 Sunni Prisoners Are Still at the Risk of Execution

HRANA News Agency – After the execution of at least 20 Sunni prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, fears and concerns about the fate of other prisoners in the prison with the similar charges and cases have increased. Among the death row prisoners of “Tohid and Jahad” case, only two prisoners, including a juvenile offender have survived from recent mass-executions of Sunni prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj. Due to unprecedented and unexpected recent mass-executions of Sunni prisoners they spend their days in fear of a similar death along 50 Sunni prisoners in the prison, 9 of whom have also been sentenced to death.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), after mass-executions of Sunni prisoners at Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj on August 1 only 20 of the executions were officially confirmed.
Now 50 Sunni prisoners on charges mainly related to religious activities and association or cooperation with groups which government of Iran consider as “Takfiri, jihadi or Salafi” are in hall 21 of ward 7 of Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.
39 of these prisoners have been sentenced to short and long term imprisonments and 11 prisoners have been sentenced to death.
Barzan Nasrallahzadeh and Farshid Nasiri are the only prisoners who were sentenced to death on charge of cooperating with the groups known as “Takfiri, jihadi or Salafi”, although their sentences have not been confirmed yet and they have survived from recent mass-executions of sunni prisoners at Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, they are probably still at the risk of execution more than other prisoners.
Barzan Nasrallahzadeh was younger than 18 years old when he was arrested.
Seyed Jamal Seyed Mousavi and Abdolrahman Sangani are two other prisoners on death row whose death verdicts have been sent to the executive branch after. The two inmates have been sentenced to death in separate cases and in relation to other religious or jihadists groups.
Farhad Salimi, Ayoub Karimi, Seyed Qasem Abesteh, Davod Abdollahi, Anwar Khezri, Kamran Sheikhe and Khosro Besharat are the other seven prisoners who are living in hall 21 of wad 7 of Rajai Shahr prison and their death verdicts are still on the appeal stage.
Due to recent mass-executions of prisoners on similar charges, the concerns about the repetition of this process particularly about prisoners whose verdicts are already in the executive branch and also the 7 prisoners who are awaiting for the outcome of the appeal, have increased.
It is worth mentioning, on “Black Monday”, August 1, 2016, many death row Sunni prisoners were transferred to solitary confinements while being handcuffed, shackled and blindfolded under tight security measures by unprecedented onslaught of black guards of Rajai Shahr prison. One day later lots of them were executed.
